Hash-based one-time password (HOTP) is event-based and a combination of a private key & a licence-based one-time password that is used to secure two-factor authentication (2FA) for web services that do not support WebAuthn. HOTP can also be used in offline application scenarios where users do not have access to the internet.
Personal Identity Verification (PIV) enables the iShield Key Pro to store personal credentials for a specific person to securely store digital certificates and private keys and to store security keys for device identification, authentication and registration using the PKCS#11 cryptographic standard. This is how iShield Key Pro can be used for Windows logon thanks to PIV.
